Dr Star Khoza is currently an associate professor of pharmacology and clinical pharmacy at the University of the Western Cape. He is a pharmacist with postgraduate qualifications in clinical pharmacology and clinical epidemiology. Dr Khoza has more than 15 years of experience as a lecturer and researcher. He has experience in the professional training of pharmacy, medical, dental, and nursing students. He was previously the coordinator and module instructor in the MSc in Clinical Pharmacology program at the University of Zimbabwe for eight years. He has published more than 35 articles in local and international referred journals. His publications include research in basic pharmacology, drug utilization, medicine adherence, health outcomes, surveillance of adverse events during use of drugs and blood products, and pharmacovigilance systems. Dr Khoza is a past member of the National Medicines and Therapeutics Advisory Committee (NMTPAC) for Zimbabwe and was involved in the development and updating of treatment guidelines and essential medicines list. Dr Khoza also has more than 10 years of experience in the regulation of medicines in Southern Africa. His medicine regulatory activities include evaluation of applications for registration of medicines (quality and clinical data), evaluation of clinical trial applications, and causality assessment of adverse drug reaction reports. He has provided consultant services for national, regional and international organizations in the fields of pharmacology, drug use epidemiology, results based funding of health institutions, epidemiology of poisoning, and regulation of medicines.
